General
What is medical cannabis?
Medical cannabis is the use of the cannabis plant or its compounds (THC, CBD) under the supervision of a licensed practitioner, as part of a treatment plan. It's based on a clinical evaluation, an adapted dosage and follow-up.
Is medical cannabis legal in Canada?
Yes. It's regulated under Health Canada's Cannabis Regulations. A prescription from a licensed practitioner is required.
Who are your practitioners?
Physicians and nurse practitioners licensed to practise in Canada. No prescription is issued without a genuine clinical evaluation.
Prescription & consultation
How long does the process take?
Most patients complete the journey — from application to prescription — in a single day. A video consultation is often available within minutes.
Do I need a referral from my doctor?
No. You can apply directly with Coverleaf; our team handles the rest.
Is a prescription guaranteed?
No. Eligibility is determined by the practitioner's clinical evaluation. Coverleaf does not diagnose or guarantee a prescription.
Insurance, veterans & workplace injury
Is medical cannabis covered by insurance?
Many private plans cover it (Blue Cross, Sun Life, Manulife, Canada Life and others). Coverage varies by plan — we check it with you at no obligation.
Do you cover veterans and workers' compensation?
Yes. Veterans Affairs Canada covers medical cannabis for eligible veterans, and workers' compensation boards (WSIB, WCB, CNESST) may cover certain cases. We handle the whole file A-to-Z, with no cost and no money up front for you.
ACMPR licence
Can I grow my own medical cannabis?
Yes, if you hold a prescription and register with Health Canada under the ACMPR. Coverleaf helps with the prescription and the application.
How many plants can I grow?
The permitted amount depends on the daily dose your practitioner prescribes. Health Canada calculates your limit from that prescription.
