ACMPR grow licence: growing your medical cannabis at home

With a valid prescription, you can apply to grow your own medical cannabis. Here's how the ACMPR licence works.

Many patients don't realize they can grow their own medical cannabis at home. It's possible through the personal production licence, governed by Health Canada's Cannabis Regulations (often called 'ACMPR').

Who's eligible?

You first need a valid medical document issued by a licensed practitioner. That's the gateway: no prescription, no grow licence.

How many plants?

The authorized plant count is calculated from your prescribed daily dose, using a Health Canada formula. A higher dose allows more plants; indoor and outdoor don't give the same count.

The process

Once you have your document, you file a registration application for personal production with Health Canada. Coverleaf helps you understand your eligibility and prepare the file.

Why grow?

For many patients, growing at home is a more affordable option long term and offers more control over the strains used. It isn't right for everyone, though.
