Conditions we assess

Chronic pain

Chronic pain affects about one in five Canadian adults. Some patients turn to medical cannabis when usual treatments are no longer enough — always under a licensed practitioner's assessment.

Understanding chronic pain

Chronic pain is pain that persists beyond three months, often tied to injury, arthritis, nerve damage or a long-term condition. It can disrupt sleep, mood and daily function, and doesn't always respond to conventional approaches.

Medical cannabis and chronic pain

In Canada, medical cannabis is sometimes considered within a pain-management plan when other options have been tried without enough success. It is not a first-line treatment and is not right for everyone. A practitioner reviews your history, current medications and goals before any decision, and determines whether any precautions apply in your case.

Questions — Chronic pain
Does medical cannabis relieve chronic pain?
We can't promise any outcome. Some people use it as part of a pain-management plan, but effects vary and the decision rests with the practitioner after assessment.
Can I reduce my opioids?
Some patients consult with that goal. Any medication change must be done with a professional — never stop a treatment on your own.
Does Coverleaf guarantee a prescription?
No. The decision always rests with the practitioner after a clinical assessment. Medical cannabis is not right for everyone.
Is it covered by insurance?
Many private plans, Veterans Affairs (VAC) and the CNESST may cover medical cannabis depending on your situation — see our Insurance page.
