Conditions we assess

Anxiety and stress

Anxiety and chronic stress can disrupt daily life. Some patients explore medical cannabis, but this route calls for careful assessment by a licensed practitioner.

Understanding anxiety and stress

Anxiety becomes a concern when it is persistent, out of proportion, and interferes with sleep, focus or relationships. It takes many forms and is usually addressed with therapy, lifestyle and sometimes medication.

Medical cannabis and anxiety and stress

Medical cannabis is approached cautiously with anxiety: in some people THC can actually increase anxiety, and important precautions apply (notably a personal or family history of psychosis). It is not a first-line treatment. A practitioner assesses whether this option is reasonable and safe in your situation.

This page is provided for information only and is not medical advice. Medical cannabis is not a first-line treatment and is not right for everyone. Coverleaf does not diagnose and does not guarantee a prescription — eligibility is determined by a licensed practitioner's assessment. In an emergency, call 911.

Questions — Anxiety and stress
Does cannabis help with anxiety?
Effects vary widely between people and can sometimes worsen anxiety. We don't guarantee any outcome; only a practitioner can judge whether it's appropriate.
Are there contraindications?
Yes. Cannabis is generally discouraged with a history of psychosis, during pregnancy or breastfeeding, and needs caution with certain medications. The practitioner checks all of this.
Does Coverleaf guarantee a prescription?
No. The decision always rests with the practitioner after a clinical assessment. Medical cannabis is not right for everyone.
Is it covered by insurance?
Many private plans, Veterans Affairs (VAC) and the CNESST may cover medical cannabis depending on your situation — see our Insurance page.
